Caryota Mitis Fishtail Palm (Caryota mitis) is prized for graceful fronds that bring height, movement, and a tropical character to container displays. Common names for this plant group include Fishtail Palm, Clustering Fishtail Palm.
Light Needs: Bright, filtered light. Introduce any direct morning sun gradually and protect from scorching afternoon exposure.
Difficulty Level: Easy to intermediate. Check soil moisture regularly and provide a stable position away from cold drafts.
Pet Safety: Moderate. Calcium oxalate crystals in the fruit can irritate the mouth, skin, and digestive tract. Keep fruit and other plant material away from pets.
Watering Needs: Water when the top inch of mix begins to dry, before the root ball dries throughout. Let excess water drain completely; do not leave roots standing in water.
Soil Preference: Use a well-draining palm or indoor potting mix with coco coir or peat, pumice, and fine pine bark. Retain light moisture while allowing air to reach the roots.
Caryota Mitis Fishtail Palm adds distinctive botanical character to a thoughtfully placed plant collection. Match its light and watering needs to your space to enjoy its growth and ornamental appeal over time.
